Nine noble families fight for control of the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after thousands of years of slumber. George RR Martin's wife once said she would leave him if he killed Arya or Sansa. Tywin Lannister: Any man who has to say "I am king" is not a true king. At the beginning, each member's name is attached with a distinctive mark. from their character's house. Included in the Hollywood Top Ten: Critics’ Nominees: Drama (2011). Main Title (Uncredited) Written and starring Ramin Djawadi. Over time, I gradually began watching "Game of Thrones"; since the first episode (gradually, because she's so busy), I've heard nothing but wonderful things about it from friends, family, and IMDb reviewers. Plus, with so much talent and such an excellent book series, how could it go wrong? The good news is that 'Game of Thrones' didn't do badly. Quite the opposite. Not only is it a rare TV show that gets its original source material right and treats it with respect, it's one of the best, most exciting and compelling shows of recent years in its own right. The TV show is so brilliant that it's actually worth checking out if it's made for TV, when everything is done to such a high standard that it puts to shame a lot of the movies being made today. This is one of the prime examples of an acclaimed show that deserves everyone's praise. Visually, 'Game of Thrones' looks amazing. The scenery is spectacular, the sets are very atmospheric and beautiful to look at with real detail, and the costumes fit the characters to a tee. Also, the special effects are some of the best on TV and are neither overused nor abused, the scale, detail and character and soul are better than many big budget blockbusters. As is the cinematography and editing, which is also cinematic quality. I can't speak for "Game of Thrones"; not to mention the thematically, orchestrally and atmospherically layered musical score and the unforgettable main theme. Again worthy of a big budget fantasy/action/drama film. It's hard not to be pleased with the quality of the writing, excellent is not a strong enough adjective to describe how good the writing is. It always flows naturally, is layered and thought-provoking and portrays a wide range of emotions such as gripping suspense, touching pathos and witty humor. The plot lines are so beautiful, structured with such nuance and emphasis on coherence, high emotional levels and touch on complex and sensitive topics with intelligence and tact. Whenever an event or more action-packed scene occurs, there's always a reason, never just because. Not only are the details crafted with grand epic scale, brilliant staging, excitement and dramatic tension, but underneath all the scale and vivid attention to detail there is a lot of heart and layers. They are not too long and there are no misplaced elements. The characters are also a big part of the appeal. 'Game of Thrones' has characters that are as well developed and as close to real life as possible, despite being in a fantasy world. These characters are not hero and villain archetypes (Joffrey is the only one who comes close, but the difference is that he is extremely interesting with a very developed person who has over a hundred percent on the threat level scale), they are much more and have strengths and weaknesses. The decisions are logical and no character is less likable when the decision is wrong because mistakes are acknowledged and learned from.
