A life-affirming, genre-bending story based on Stephen King's novel that chronicles three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and David Dastmalchian have all appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although none of them share a single scene together. Hiddleston is Loki and is most associated with the Thor (2011) films and the Loki (2021) TV series, Gillan is Nebula and is most associated with the Guardiões da Galáxia (2014) films, Ejiofor is Baron Mordo in the Doutor Estranho (2016) films, while Dastmalchian is Kurt in the first 2 Ant-Man films and Veb in Homem-Formiga and Vespa: Quantumania (2023). I thought the film was going to be horror and I was very wrong, in the best way. Mike Flanagan was a director I wasn't familiar with, so my expectations were really low. That said, The Life of Chuck got the groove of what makes a great horror film: fleshed out, relatable characters with a unique, mysterious situation. Get on board. I want to keep my review relatively vague because I think the film works best when you go in without knowing much. I left the film feeling a mix of joy and melancholy and appreciated the art that got me there. Highly recommended.
